What is the purpose of the Microphone Switch?
The Microphone Switch provides an easy way attach both your microphone and a SignaLink (or similar product) to a radio's mic jack, and switch between the two without having to disconnect any cables.  This permits inexpensive radios that lack a Data or ACC port to be used with both voice and compatible digital modes without having to unplug your microphone.

Can the Microphone Switch be used to switch one microphone between two radios?
Yes, provided that the same microphone is compatible with both radios and that both radios use the same microphone pin-out.  However, please note that the SW-RJ11 and SW-RJ45 were not designed for this purpose, so the connector layout and labeling for this specific application is not ideal.  For example, the "common" RJ45 connector on the SW-RJ45 switch is the rear panel jack marked "Radio".  Depending on the position of the front panel selection switch, this jack is connected to either the front panel RJ45 jack labeled "Mic" or the rear panel RJ45 jack labeled "AUX".  So your microphone would actually need to be plugged into the switch's rear panel "Radio" jack, and then one radio would be connected to the switch's front panel "Mic" jack and the other to the switch's rear panel "AUX" jack.

Does the Microphone Switch also switch audio?
Yes.  Stereo or mono audio can also be switched if you wish to connect audio through the switch.

Does the Microphone Switch require power?
No, power is never required.  The Microphone Switch uses a simple mechanical push-button switch assembly to switch the microphone connector and audio lines.  This keeps the installation and operation of the switch simple, and it is ideal for emergency use were power is limited.

Can other devices such as a TNC be used with the Microphone Switch?
Yes. Virtually any TNC, sound card radio interface, etc., can be connected to the AUX jack on the Microphone Switch.  Since the switch's connection to the radio is wired "straight through" (1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc.) and the switch itself switches "straight through", the pin-out provided by the AUX jack is the same as that provided by the radio.
